HOW WE CAN HELP

Services Dr. Davisson Provides..

Individual Psychotherapy

Dr. Davisson practices psychotherapy from an integrative framework that emphasizes depth oriented approaches. This means she is interested in relationships, personal history, sociocultural, and family of origin experiences, and the nuanced ways these impact our access to personal satisfaction. She is grounded in contemporary psychoanalytic approaches, but integrates a variety of additional techniques in to her work including emotion focused, cognitive, trauma informed and mindfulness related interventions. Dr. Davisson strives to create a relaxed environment that emphasizes collaborative honesty and trust with her patients, custom tailoring treatment goals to each individual.

Couples/Marital Psychotherapy

Dr. Davisson sees couples in pre-martial, marital and/or relationship counseling for a wide range of issues. Couples are treated in an emotion-focused and object-relations framework, addressing attachment issues and breaches in trust including infidelity or other betrayals, communication, and intimacy/family issues. Couples therapy can be a valuable experience for couples at various stages of their relationship and doesn’t have to represent “the worst” circumstances. Many couples don’t realize the benefit of focusing on and exploring their relationship as it grows and changes. Dr. Davisson offers supportive guidance and honest feedback to couples through this process.

White Bodied Work: Dismantling Whiteness and Being Present

A growing body of work and experience for Dr. Davisson is working with White Bodied groups and individuals looking to expand their capacity to work internally with racialized experiences as well as enhance awareness of the conditioning of White Supremacy. This includes characteristics of Whiteness as well as tendencies toward dissociation and disconnection of lived experience and history of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and Persons of Color). Areas of Specialty...

Depression & Anxiety

Many people are unaware that symptoms of depression and anxiety can be an acute reaction to a life stressor or transition. Others know the symptoms all too well as they have been living with depression or anxiety for much of their life. Working in psychotherapy can identify if your symptoms are acute or chronic, identify the onset and related meaning, and work to decrease the hold these symptoms have on your life.

Sexual Abuse, Trauma and PTSD

Dr. Davisson has extensive experience working with survivors of childhood sexual abuse, adult onset trauma, and complex PTSD. She uses an empirically supported trauma-informed framework to address these difficult experiences and promote resiliency and healing.

Mood and Personality Disorders

Dr. Davisson is experienced in diagnosing and treating Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorders, and Personality Disorders including Borderline, Narcissistic, Dependent, Histrionic and Obsessive-Compulsive Personality. Research indicates that depth-oriented, long term psychotherapy is best suited to effectively treat personality disorders which can significantly limit relationship satisfaction through the life span.

Family of Origin Issues

Family of origin issues can range from experiences of severe abuse to emotional neglect, relational difficulties with parents or siblings, family trauma, or generational issues. Addressing such experiences in psychotherapy can identify patterns from our childhood we do not wish to repeat as well as promote wellness and insight.

GLBTQ support

Dr. Davisson has extensive experience working with members of the GLTBQ community including trans, gender queer, and non-binary folks. She has experience with supporting gender congruent transition and expression and supporting families and partnerships through this process. She is committed to providing a safe and comfortable environment to explore identity-related issues and promote authentic self-expression.

Multicultural issues

Multicultural issues can include among others: lived experience of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Persons of Color), acculturation stress, experiences of oppression, discrimination and safety, immigration-related issues and multiracial or biracial identity difficulties. Dr. Davisson is committed to utilizing a social justice framework in her work and promoting a safe and transparent environment to discuss these issues.

Relationship Concerns

Relationship concerns can be addressed through the modality of couples/marital therapy or through individual therapy. Both offer important avenues of self-exploration and insight around partner compatibility, healthy vs unhealthy ways of relating, breaches in trust and obstacles to closeness and intimacy.

Stress Management

Stress is the body’s reaction to circumstances which place a demand on our bodies and minds. When stress becomes overwhelming, particularly chronic stress, our body struggles to maintain homeostasis and we begin to see stress-induced health issues. Addressing the source of stress and reinforcing healthy coping strategies can improve health for body and mind and promote wellness and longevity.

Grief and Loss

Dr. Davisson is seasoned in therapeutic approaches to grief and loss including the death of a loved one, the loss of an important relationship, divorce, pregnancy loss, and the loss of a beloved family pet. Research supports positive outcomes associated with seeking therapeutic support following such a loss.

College/Graduate Student Issues

College and graduate school present unique and intersecting challenges for adults that can easily become overwhelming. This is also a time when many report overlapping difficulties with self care, relationship issues and career trajectories. Dr. Davisson has specialized experience in college counseling that is valuable in addressing these unique concerns and optimizing one’s potential.
